DARK CLOUDS




Bands of dark clouds like advancing waves scudding across the nearly full moon. These may be the foreboders of snow, which is on its way but the cloud pattern reminded me of the ripple pattern in sand when it's washed by shallow waves. Nature repeats patterns and reflects images both when viewed from afar and from close up. Extraordinary views of the earth looking down from the sky resembling the patterns in decaying or burnt wood.

Named after the most successful Alpine competitor of all time, Deborah Compagnoni, born in Borneo in 1970, who won 3 gold medals in successive Winter Olympics in the 1990s. RIPPLING WATERS

The surface of the flowing waters of the River Cleddau in the last few moments of daylight illustrating the extraordinary variety of texture, shade and light created by the slope and configuration of the river bed. WILLOW TREE LEAVES

Now the willow tree is joining in on the act and starting to stir - of the genus Salix, from the Latin salire, to leap, it literally springs into life. And the verb "to sally", meaning "to go forth boldly" comes from the same root. Also brings to mind Roger Deakins' praise of trees (from "Wildwood")... "Nothing can compare... (to trees) ...for signalling the changes in the natural world. They are our barometers of the weather and the changing seasons. We can tell the time of year by them. Trees have the capacity to rise to the heavens and connect us to the sky, to endure, to renew, to bear fruit and to burn and warm us through the winter - there is nothing that excites the imagination and passions as much as the flames of a log fire."
