MOUNTAIN HARE

Skiing down the un-pisted run of Warrens we spotted a mountain hare, lepus timidus, in semi-winter colour with stripes of grey fur in amongst the winter white. It scampered away showing no concerns over our presence - it must be used to the comings and goings of humans in this area and probably feels safer in the proximity of skiers and mountain bikers rather than farmers and gamekeepers.
