PORTHCLAIS HARBOUR SUNSET

Image
This peaceful scene, looking out to sea from the shelter of Porthclais harbour, can be enjoyed by tourists and other visitors savouring the delights of the famous Shed, purveyors of Pembrokeshire's finest fish and chips. Their fresh cod and haddock are caught from these immediate seas by the master of The Shed. The tranquility of the scene belies the industrial history of this remote village, which was a thriving industrial hothouse during the first half of the twentieth century, with locally-mined granite being shipped out from here to the far corners of the world. PLUMSTONE MOUNTAIN

Image
Part of the rocky dragon's back that runs inland from Roch across North Pembrokeshire, Plumstone Mountain is a dramatic jumble of rhyolite blocks that cries out to be climbed on. Thirty years ago the Open Spaces Society ( Britain's oldest national conservation body) won an access victory here over farmers who were unlawfully fencing-off common land... and it is known locally as a mountain, even though it's only 170m above sea level.  Sent from my Blueberry  ®  mobile device
